The art exhibition Segni Urbani (“Urban Signs”) presents representations of the suburbs painted by Stefano Mariani and colorful installations by Andrea Vizzini, as sculptural elements of a contemporary urban context.

STEFANO MARIANI – Urban Signs

Artist, architect and teacher Stefano Mariani, born in the Novara area in 1959, embarked on his own artistic journey in the 1980s. He has dedicated himself to interpreting urban environments, particularly suburbs, and industrial archaeology. The geometries and volumes of buildings, asphalt roads and electricity pylons are the protagonists of his works. These paintings are often inspired by the urban, architectural and industrial landscape of the metropolitan area of Venice, where Mariani graduated in Architecture in 1983. In the “Urban Gothic” series, Mariani depicts these urban landscapes by illuminating them with a blurred light, immersed in a foggy, opaque atmosphere. The rare human figures depicted there appear to be shadows themselves. Everything appears suspended and silent, generating a subtle, intimate uneasiness in the viewer, brought about by the sensation of the crumbling buildings depicted.

ANDREA VIZZINI – Urban Signs

Andrea Vizzini’s Dynamic Equilibri series brings together several installations of solid structures with imaginative shapes, crafted from resin or painted steel. The curved lines of these sculptures express movement, fluidity and transformation. The straight lines and sharp edges, on the other hand, evoke a sense of stability and rigor. These sculptures stand out, both for their form and, perhaps above all, for the vibrant colors with which they are painted. Their presence in the space completely redefines it, reviving the dialectic between stasis and movement, light and matter, among all the elements present in that environment. The blue installation, precisely because of its blue color, evokes the concept of interiority, a relationship with one’s own self. Color thus takes on the value of an emotional code: if white is the color of intimacy and transformation, anthracite gray communicates solidity but also introspection.
